The EU is a success story, bringing peace, unity and prosperity for Europe’s citizens. However, we cannot be idle and sit still. New developments, such as digitalization, e-commerce, smart mobility and new disruptive business models need different policies, support and rulebooks than the coalmines, steel mills or dairy farms some fifty years ago.
Is the EU equipped to react to these new developments? Or should we reinvent ourselves as a EU 2.0? How do the Netherlands and Finland find each other on these issues?
Deputy Ambassador Özlem Canel will highlight both the successes and the current challenges the EU is facing now, seen from a Dutch perspective, focusing on economic issues (including EEA, EFTA, TTIP and CETA) and continued EU’s economic integration (i.e. common market, monetary union and economic union). Furthermore, she will discuss integration in practice as well as external pressures on the EU.
