Postdoctoral Researcher and Project Researcher positions open in machine learning research group

The Faculty of Science and Forestry operates on the Kuopio and Joensuu campuses of the University of Eastern Finland. The mission of the faculty is to carry out internationally recognised scientific research and to offer research-education in the fields of natural sciences and forest sciences. Postdoctoral Researcher and Project Researcher positions in machine learning, School of Computing, Joensuu Campus
The Machine Learning group (http://www.uef.fi/web/machine-learning) is a world-class research group led by Professor Pasi Fränti in the School of Computing. On-going research activities include cluster analysis, data mining, web mining, optimization algorithms for location-based services, multimedia, and games.
The positions are related to the Academy of Finland funded multi-disciplinary nationwide project, IMPRO, working on service optimization for the health care reform. The project involves partners from UEF (School of Computing and Department of Geographical and Historical Studies), as well as the National Institute for Health and Welfare, and the University of Oulu, and Aalto University. The work involves research and development in the following tasks:
1) Developing machine learning and data analysis methods for location-based applications
2) Application of the methods of multi-objective optimization in health care optimization
A successful candidate is expected to have an MSc degree (project researcher) or a PhD degree (postdoctoral researcher) in computer science or a related field. Both are expected to have experience in machine learning or data analytics, and have good programming skills also in web or mobile environments. Problem-solving and team working capabilities are essential. For the postdoctoral researcher position, a proven publication record is required. A person to be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher shall hold a suitable doctoral degree that has been awarded less than five years ago.
The positions will be filled for a fixed term from 1 March, 2018 (or as agreed) to 31 December, 2020. The project has an option to be extended (2021-2023). The position will be filled for a fixed term due to it pertaining to a specific project (positions of postdoctoral researcher shall always be filled for a fixed term, UEF University Regulations, Section 31).
English may be used as the language of instruction and supervision in these positions.
The salary of the postdoctoral researcher position is determined in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities and is based on level 5 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff (€2,865.30/ month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary includes a personal performance component, which may be a maximum of 46.3% of the job requirement component.
The salary of the project researcher position is determined in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities and is based on levels 2-4 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff (€1,985.85 - 2,475.31/ month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary includes a personal performance component, which may be a maximum of 46.3% of the job requirement component.
