Improving Forestry Education in Kenya

Description

The overall aim of the project is to improve forestry education to enhance the management and conservation of forests and other tree resources in Kenya for sustainable environment and socio-economic development as stated in the Kenya Forestry Policy. This objective will be achieved by building capacity of forestry education at Chepkoilel University College (Moi University) by utilizing the expertise in forestry and ICT of the University of Eastern Finland through training of teachers on new learning methodologies including improving educational materials and practices, and providing support and training on the use of ICT in education.

The results of the project are:

• Forestry curriculum in Moi University reflects the needs of local and global societies

• ICT methods are integrated and effectively used in forestry education at Moi University, and teachers apply contemporary pedagogical methods and updated teaching materials, including mobile games to support learning of the content matters.

• To establish active partnerships and networks with international and local communities for improving forestry education in Kenya

• To increase the knowledge and attitudes of local communities related to the relevance and importance of forestry education
