Maali laboratory provides high-quality elemental analyses
The aim of Maali investment and developmental project was to take ICP-MS and ion chromatography devices in use and to develop cost-effective preparation and analysis methods for samples from different sources (such as ash, liquid, soil, rock, air, biological samples and new materials). Specifically the laboratory will be able to analyse rare earth elements (REE) quickly and reliably, which will serve the industry requiring these elements and facilitate research and product development significantly.
The laboratory is equipped with ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry), which is one of the most versatile and powerful analytical technologies that enables highly sensitive elemental analysis. A nanomodule attached to the instrument allows the analysis of nanoparticles. Ion chromatograph (IC) will enable the analysis of inorganic ions from water and soil samples (e.g. nitrates, nitrites, phosphates, sulfates).
The testing and optimization of the methods start in spring 2017. The analysis services are launched in the autumn 2018.
