Seminar series "Registers as a data source for effectiveness and patient safety research" continues on 8.1.2014 (14.15-15.45, S10). Everyone is warmly welcome!
Post-doctoral researcher Heidi Taipale (Doctor of Science, Pharmacy) from the Kuopio Research Centre of Geriatric Care, UEF will talk about Modelling drug exposure from register-based data
The prescription register enables studies of drug exposure and outcomes as drug purchases of each person can be extracted from this register. The presentation will describe the structure of prescription register data and information which can and cannot be found in the register. Unfortunately, register-based data is not in ready-to-use format for most research questions. This means that data must be pre-processed and drug purchases modelled to drug use periods, i.e. when drug use started and ended for each person and for each drug. Also, different modelling options and their pros and cons will be discussed using examples from the MEDALZ-2005 (Medication Use and Alzheimer's disease) study.
