The University of Eastern Finland improved its performance slightly from previous years in the international QS World University Rankings 2012. In the newly published ranking of world universities, the University of Eastern Finland was ranked 302nd. Last year and the year before, it was ranked 305th and 308th, respectively.
The universities were ranked on the basis of various criteria, such as academic reputation, employer reputation and citations per faculty. The strengths of the University of Eastern Finland in the ranking were especially its faculty/student ratio and citation rates.
The top three universities were the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of Cambridge and Harvard University. In addition to the University of Eastern Finland, other Finnish universities ranked among the leading 350 universities in the world were the University of Helsinki, which was ranked 78th, the University of Turku (211th), Aalto University (222nd), University of Oulu (262nd) and the University of Jyväskylä (309th).
QS World University Rankings are published annually by Quacquarelli Symonds, a globally active education and careers networking company. This year, over 2,000 universities were considered in the ranking process, and 700 were ranked.
